Search no more (big dada)

As regular visitors to Big Dada's cosy web HQ will have noticed, 2009 is going to be all about new signings. it's an incredibly exciting time for us, and hopefully for you, too. One of the bright young stars preparing for her debut album is the label's first ever female solo artist, Speech Debelle. Her track 'Searching' has been playing on the site for a while, and is now up on Itunes to buy. There's also a very nice, hand numbered and stamped 7" on the webshop and in stores. The song has already picked up nine Radio 1 plays, which isn't very common for a label that values the creative above all else. In case you need more convincing to spend your pounds or pence, those arbiters of taste Dazed magazine and the Stool Pigeon have both featured South London's newest star. They recommend you grab it quick smart, too.

Thunder at last (big dada)

One of Big Dada's most exciting new signings are finally making it over to London next month. Thunderheist are producer Grahmzilla and vocalist Isis, who providence happily brought together to form "Toronto's shit-hot electro duo" (NME.com)You can hear their debut release 'Jerk It' playing on the site right now, and even better, see their intensely brilliant live show at YoYo (Notting Hill Arts Club) on Thurs 4th Dec, and alongside musical contemporaries XXXChange (Spank Rock) and Boy 8 Bit at Cargo on Friday 5th.There are rumours of guerilla style live antics circulating too...Catch them whilst you can still get near the stage - they're very much worth it.

Arty farty vinyl party (big dada)

The stunningly brilliant cover of Slime and Reason, designed by the powerhouse design team Oscar and Ewan, has been nominated as the best of 2008 by Art Vinyl. For those who don't own big sunglasses or spend an inordinate amount of time in Hackney, Art Vinyl is a great little shop and gallery on Broadway Market, that sells record display cases and generally celebrates the glory of good, 12” vinyl artwork. Please take a moment to vote, here

Plan A (big dada)

If you're in London this Saturday then it's almost (and I say 'almost' cos I don't wanna be too pushy) your duty to go to the Macbeth in the Eastern Hip-Packing Disitrict (Hoxton, you waste-face). Marvellous magazine Plan B will be having their regular shindig there from 8pm onward and musical delights include a DJ set from our very own Xrabit (currently making dancefloors rumble with his collabo with DMG$ - "Killin Em") and the mighty mighty Infinite Livez, accompanied by DJs Tendraw and Dysu. In addition, the bill includes a live set from Dokkebi Q (3QReq) and Plan B's very own Ringo P Stacey on selectaaah duties. it'll be fun, only costs a fiver to get in and goes on until the wee small hours. Attend.

Thunder time (big dada)

Big Dada's new signing, Thunderheist, are over in Europe playing some shows this week. We caught up with them at Popkomm, the music industry conference in Berlin, where they were playing at Icon. The show was explosive. Vocalist Isis made most of the room into her stage, provoked more movement than a bank going under, and generally awed the crowd. Add to this the quite literally thunderous, dancefloor pop-hop from Grahm Zilla, and you had what's being called the 'highlight.'With a bit of luck they're in the UK next week. Watch this space, and this one too.

Award Tour (big dada)

Roderick Manuva has notched up yet another nomination for yet another award, as Best Hip Hop Act at the Urban Music Awards 2008. Voted for by the public both for nominations and final results, your clicking fingers have got the Rootical one this far. Keep those votes coming to win him this one for everybody out there who thinks that "urban" music should be more than cynical, slick, manufactured drivel. Go to urbanmusicawards.net and cast your votes. You can give Big Dada the nod in the best label category, too, if you like, but we won't hold it against you if you don't.... The ceremony is on November 15th so get on with it!
